A shade sail made in our factory can reach customers all over the world. Transport also contributes to the environmental impact of a product, which is why we act on the emissions linked to our air shipments.

With DHL Express GoGreen Plus* we help reduce the CO2e emissions linked to the shipments covered by the service, through the use of SAF and the Book & Claim model.

How it works

Our contribution supports the use of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) in the DHL air network. Through the Book & Claim model, the environmental benefits are allocated to the shipments covered by the service, even if the SAF is not necessarily used on that specific flight.

Investment in SAF

The contribution goes to decarbonisation measures in the DHL logistics network. The benefits of SAF are allocated to shipments through the Book & Claim model.

Calculated emissions

CO2e emissions are calculated using a process verified by an independent body, Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS).

Reports and certificates

DHL provides reports and an annual certificate of the CO2e emissions reduction (Scope 3) linked to shipments made with the GoGreen Plus service. The amount of CO2e reduced is not an estimate but a certified figure, which we include in our Impact Report.

The percentage refers to the potential benefit of SAF compared with fossil fuel over its life cycle. The actual reduction depends on the GoGreen Plus service purchased, the volume of shipments covered and the reporting provided by DHL Express.

Why we chose it

Because shipping is part of the product and of our work. We can cut consumption at the factory and switch to renewable energy, but we also need to act on the emissions linked to the air shipments covered by the service.

Because it is measurable. Every year DHL gives us a report and a certificate of the CO2e emissions reduction linked to the shipments within the GoGreen Plus scope.

Because we want to take responsibility for the impact of our activities, and be open about the scope of the initiative and the documented results.

*GoGreen Plus is a value-added service for a DHL shipment, which contributes to decarbonisation measures within the DHL logistics network. By using alternative fuels and technologies, DHL reduces the use of fossil fuels in the modes of transport and buildings used for GoGreen Plus shipments. This does not necessarily mean that the specific shipment is physically transported by vehicles or handled in facilities that use those fuels or technologies.
